'Race
Gas Required' or 'Race Gas Mix Required' means high octane!
Some new fuels designed to get the
best power possible from STANDARD compression engines might not be high
octane.
Occasionally, you will hear people say oxygenated fuels are the only
fuels you should run in a four stroke -- NOT TRUE. You should match
the fuel octane to your compression ratio, no matter what 'type' of
fuel you use.
This also
applies to Aviation Fuel, which is not designed for ATV and Motorcycle
applications. Although aviation fuel octane ratings seem high
enough for safe use in high compression engines, their rating scale is
different. |
Rule of Thumb:
If
it's OK on premium pump gas - lower octane
specialty fuels OK.
If compression is too high for premium pump
fuel - DO NOT run ANY lower octane fuels.
If you'd like to learn more about octane, check out our
Tech page.

Powroll piston kits are
listed in one of four ways:
|
HIGH COMPRESSION PISTON
These are stock sized pistons with a
taller dome. This kit will increase compression but not displacement.
REQUIREMENTS: Installs in place of
your stock piston. No boring required, but clearances should be
checked.
OVERSIZE:
Some of our kits
have oversizes available, these will be listed below the base kit as
"BORE KIT - OVERSIZE FOR ABOVE"
|
BORE-IN KIT
This kit includes a piston that is larger
than stock size, but will bore into the stock cylinder sleeve.
REQUIREMENTS: Your stock cylinder
will need to be bored to fit the Powroll piston.
OVERSIZE:
Some of our kits
have oversizes available, these will be listed below the base kit as
"BORE KIT - OVERSIZE FOR ABOVE"
|
RE-SLEEVE KIT
These kits increase the size of the
piston past the maximum reliable limits of the stock sleeve. A larger
sleeve is included with the kit.
REQUIREMENTS: Your stock cylinder
will need the sleeve removed, the cylinder bored to fit the Powroll
sleeve, the Powroll sleeve pressed into the cylinder, and the Powroll
sleeve bored to fit the Powroll piston.
OVERSIZE:
Some of our kits have
oversizes available, these will be listed below the base kit as "BORE
KIT - OVERSIZE FOR ABOVE"
|
RE-SLEEVE KIT REQUIRING CASE MACHINING
These kits require a sleeve (see
Re-Sleeve Kit), but the new sleeve is larger than the opening in the
cases.
REQUIREMENTS: Your stock cylinder
will need the sleeve removed, the cylinder bored to fit the Powroll
sleeve, the Powroll sleeve pressed into the cylinder, and the Powroll
sleeve bored to fit the Powroll piston. Cases will need to be split to
allow the sleeve opening to be bored for the larger sleeve. |
CYLINDER CORES
We do not
stock cylinder cores. You will need to provide your own cylinder.
BORING & RESLEEVING
If you
provide us with your zip code, we can give you a list of shops in your
area that offer these services. Powroll does not offer resleeving, but
can bore cylinders for
Powroll piston kits on a limited basis. |

DOWNLOAD OUR STROKER INFORMATION BOOKLET
Includes
complete info about what a stroker is and how to order one.
Powroll stroker cranks are listed in one of
three ways:
|
STROKER
Part# will be all
numbers, no letters
The
price shown is to do the stroke work on your good stock crank
assembly. It does not include ANY parts. If your crank needs a new rod
or other parts, it will cost extra.
If your
crank is more than 2 years old, expect to need some replacement parts. |
STROKER WITH NEW ROD ASSEMBLY
Part# will end in ‘RA’
This
price includes the work on your crank, a new rod, pin, and bearing. If
other parts (cam sprocket, main bearings, etc) are needed, that will
cost extra. |
STROKER WITH HEAVY DUTY ROD
Part#
will end in ‘R’
This is
the stroke work with a stronger rod. Pin, bearing and other parts are
not included in this price. |
SHIPPING A CRANK TO
POWROLL
WHAT IS
A STROKED CRANK?
Strokers
create more displacement (and generate more torque!) by relocating the
crank pin further out on your crankshaft’s flyweights. If you'd like more
information on how a stroker works, click
here.
Stroke work
is done on your good crank assembly. You send us your crank assembly (with
all pressed-on parts), we do the work, and send it back to you assembled
and ready to install.
CRANK CORES
Powroll does not have crank
‘cores’ in stock. You will need to send in a crankshaft. Turn around is
typically 2 weeks, except during busy times, when process time can
increase to 4 weeks or more. Call or email us to find out what current
turn-around time is.
Fine Balance,
Crank Pin Welding, and other Specialized Services
All Powroll
strokers are aligned to very exacting specifications (more stringent than
most OEM requirements!). Additional services (like fine balance, etc.) may
be available as time allows. Cost for these additional services is based
on time and materials. Please call us for an estimate. |

CORE PARTS LIST
SENDING CORE FOR CREDIT
Powroll
cams listed in one of the following ways:
|
BILLET
Made in the USA from all new
materials, no core is required when purchasing a Billet camshaft.
Contrary to popular belief, we
have found no quality difference between a US-made Billet cam and a
US-made hardweld cam. Damage to most camshafts can be traced to
oil issues (low oil, no oil, bad oil), incorrect valve springs, or
installation issues.
Powroll does not recommend,
sell, or install performance camshafts made anywhere but the US. |
HARDWELD WITH NO CORE REQUIRED
These camshafts are made by
adding material to a stock camshaft, then grinding it to our
specifications. They are finished by adding a hardface material to
the surface which is thicker and stronger than the stock coating.
|
HARDWELD WITH CORE CHARGE
Made by adding material to a
stock camshaft, then grinding it to our specifications. They are
finished by adding a hardface material to the surface which is thicker
and stronger than the stock coating. Hardweld Camshaft prices include
the core charge.
Your order will include
the core charge. We will credit your charge card for the core charge
as soon as we receive your good core.
Unsure if your cam core is
good? See Requirements below. |
|
HARDFACED ROCKERS
Made by grinding the stock (thin)
surface from the rocker lobe, then adding thicker hardfacing and
grinding to stock specifications.
Our hardfaced rockers are sold in 2
ways:
1.
Set of OEM rockers, hardfaced, with
core charge. Your order will include the core charge. We will
credit your charge card for the core charge as soon as we receive
your good core.
2.
Work only. Send in a set of useable
rockers and we will do the work and return them to you. Price
listed is per rocker, quantity required is also listed. |

CORE
REQUIREMENTS
Is your core serviceable?
Some things that can cause your core to
be unserviceable:
- Scoring on the journal areas
- Stripped or Broken Bolt holes
- Journal areas out-of-round
- Excessive Overheating (blueing) of
cam or bearings
- Previously modified (Hardweld or
Re-Ground) cam (call for more information)
- Aftermarket Billet camshafts cannot
be re-worked
GOOD CORE EXAMPLE
|
 |
The Journal areas, sprocket holder and even the lobes are in
perfect, unworn condition. There is no discoloration of the metal
from heat, and no stripped bolt holes or broken sprocket holder
ears. |
EXAMPLES OF BAD CORES
|
 |
Hopefully yours doesn't look
like this! This photo shows a worst-case scenario. This cam is
obviously bad, even to the untrained eye! |
|
 |
Most bad cam cores aren't that
easy to spot. Although this camshaft is in good overall condition,
the deep gouge in the backside of the lobe is a problem. Though the
top section of cam lobe is re-worked in a Hardweld cam, the
underside is left alone. Small imperfections are not a problem
here, however, this gouge is too deep to allow the rocker to ride
over it smoothly. |
|
 |
The camshaft in this photo
(front) is discolored from excessive heat (see regular cam shown
behind it for comparison). Heat like this not only discolors the
metal, but actually changes the hardness and strength of the
material. This can be caused by low oil, no oil or improper oil.
Any metal item in the engine that has changed color will need to be
replaced -- including this cam! Cams showing discoloration are not
acceptable as a core. NOTE: Some engine parts (rods, crank
flyweights, etc) may be heat treated from the factory - these will
show color even when new. |
ROCKER CORES
If your rockers have a good shaft area
(bore where the rocker shaft sits), a good thread area (where
tappets thread into), and have not been discolored from excessive
heat, they will be useable as cores. Lobe area can be nearly
destroyed, and the rockers will still be ok as cores.
If you have any questions, give us a call.
Even better, if you have a digital camera, shoot a few photos and
email them to us. We'll be happy to evaluate it! |
